THE STORY WITHIN: A Retreat for Professionals (November 7-8)
As those in the helping professions (mental health professionals, medical professionals, social workers, etc.) we often carry the weight of others’ stories, sometimes at the expense of our own healing. Yet when do we as helpers find time to do our own work? We have clients, notes, training, licensing, to name a few. To take time out of the day to do our own therapy can mean missing out on seeing three clients that day, and then coming back to hear others stories, after processing our own.
What if you could find some healing over one weekend amongst other professionals? What if we could find healing and reset our nervous system together?
We tailored our retreat THE STORY WITHIN to meet the demands of professionals in the healing field. Check out this retreat and what you can accomplish over one weekend!
The Story Within
Your body holds the truth. Let’s listen.
Much of how we show up in the world — how we react, connect, protect, or withdraw — isn’t random. It’s rooted in the stories we’ve lived. Our nervous systems remembers. Neuroscience shows that when we begin to understand the stories written in our bodies and brains, we can start to see why we respond the way we do. Why we withdraw, why we panic, why we feel overwhelmed or numb.
Dr. Dan Siegel teaches that the way we make sense of our own stories is one of the strongest predictors of how we will parent. This is why understanding our own narrative is so critical to our work as healers.
Your Story is not just in your Mind.
What if it’s in your stomachache, your startle reflex, your need to retreat when things get loud?
Ask yourself…
- Do you flinch when someone enters the room unexpectedly?
- Does being in a crowd make you want to disappear?
- Does your body ache with no medical cause?
- Do you feel defensive when asked simple questions?
- Do raised voices send you into hiding?
These aren’t flaws—they are clues: defensive accommodations and messages from your nervous system that learned how to survive. Within these messages lies a roadmap to healing.
At The Story Within Retreat, we offer an intensive, concentrated weekend designed specifically for those in helping professions. It’s like receiving multiple therapy sessions rolled into one, providing a deep dive into your own healing journey. We will guide you through:
- Polyvagal Theory to understand your states of regulation and defensive accommodations.
- Somatic Experiencing to listen to your body’s story and integrate its messages.
- Interpersonal Neurobiology to reconnect your brain, body, and relationships.
- Attachment Theory to uncover how you learned to connect — or protect.
In a safe and supportive space, you’ll experience the equivalent of multiple therapy sessions in one weekend, allowing you to:
- Develop a Trauma Timeline that brings clarity to how your story unfolded.
- Create a Somatic Map to understand how emotion is stored in your body.
- Recognize your Polyvagal States and learn how to shift from survival responses to safety.
- Explore Family Roles and how they shaped your nervous system.
- Gain insight into your Attachment Style and how it impacts your relationships.
- Craft a Somatic Narrative that gives voice to the body’s experience.
- Integrate a Story of Healing, grounded in neuroscience.
This weekend will give you the time and space to do your own work—to process, regulate, and heal in a way that’s often hard to achieve when you’re constantly helping others. You’ll experience a concentrated, healing environment where you can connect with your own story and with others who share the same mission of serving others—and who now recognize the need to care for themselves.
Join us for The Story Within—a healing retreat for those in the helping professions—where you’ll receive the benefits of a therapeutic narrative in one transformative weekend.
