A Mind-Body Retreat 20 acres of beautiful property in DFW

YOUR STORY

Date: Aug 31, 2023, 4:00 PM – Sep 05, 2023, 10:30 AM

This individual retreat is a condensed time of healing based on connecting the mind and body. It can be powerful as one looks inside, connecting the mind and the body. Discovering your body's story is a healing endeavour.

During the retreat, we discover the story of your body and find where it may be stuck, feeling unsafe, or unmet. The body's story is important and can help us learn why we do what we do, and why we repeat patterns or get stuck, impacting how we respond and live life. If there is unresolved trauma or unresolved events our body may stay in fight, flight, or freeze.

  • This individual retreat is a condensed time of healing based on connecting the mind and body. It can be powerful as one looks inside, connecting the mind and the body. Discovering your body's story is a healing endeavor.

This individual retreat is based on neuroscience and the work of Somatic Experiencing, Neuroaffective Touch, Interpersonal Neurobiology, Polyvagal Theory, and the work of Bessel van der Kolk, who started this discovery of the body. He brought it to the world in the book that inspires many, The Body Keeps the Score.

We may startle at the slightest sound or get defensive when asked a simple question. Anger may rear up when we feel trapped or a gentle touch on the shoulder may send us into a panic. These patterns become stuck and the goal is to learn where our body is stuck and how to uncouple these patterns.

Trauma education will be through the lens of Somatic Experiencing and Neuroaffective Touch, learning how to gently guide the system back to a sense of safety.

  • Our approach to finding "your story" is a little different as we aim to make changes at the nervous system level. This means not only do you get skills for hard situations but learn how to make changes at the nervous system level. This helps to widen your window of tolerance.

Our staff is trained in a variety of areas and the focus of this retreat is seeing our story through the lens of Neuroaffective Touch, BASE, and Somatic Experiencing. Our staff creates a safe container, as we walk with you and witness the story your body has to tell.

Our approach will be on making changes at the autonomic nervous system level, therefore our primary approach will be helping the mind and body connect. Why? Because it makes changes that last forever!

  • The day will begin with a somatic contemplation, immediately allowing you to connect the body and mind.

Next, there will be experiential learning activities as you learn about polyvagal theory, our nervous system, the neuroscience of trauma, all in a simple understandable way. Learning this information helps us understand why we do what we do. The afternoons will consist of group work and developing your narrative.

Evenings consist of downtime as the body needs rest. Some may choose to gather by the firepit or pool, and some will be ready to turn in early. It is your choice. The evenings are for recuperating and preparing for the next day. Relaxation is important.

Most retreats begin on Friday night and end Sunday early afternoon.

A word from our founder

I have been offering retreats since I was sixteen when I learned the power of combining adventure and people. In those days it was often to bring together a sports team, building on the power of teamwork.

I have led canoe trips, backpacking trips, adventure camps, and rock climbing retreats, always with the goal to teach trust and bring people into connection.

One of my healing adventures was a 450 mile week-long race in Montana (see photo left) and then accelerated when I found Somatic Experiencing (SE). That is why I am so excited to bring you these retreats. Spending a weekend together, in nature, while writing your story is a wonderful path on the healing journey.
